BURTON W. WIAND Burt Wiand began his legal career by spending almost 14 years with the SEC’s Division of Enforcement in Washington, D.C. In 1989 he joined one of Florida’s largest and most prestigious law firms and built a nationally recognized financial services and complex litigation practice. In 2009 members of that practice formed Wiand Guerra King P.A. After more than 40 years of practice, he has become known as a lawyer that businesses and individuals involved in business turn to when dealing with the most difficult of legal circumstances. His practice includes white collar criminal defense, defense of regulatory matters involving governmental agencies and self-regulatory organizations and complex litigation matters that threaten the business and reputation of his clients. He also has broad experience in FCPA matters. His practice and the practice group he developed, and Wiand Guerra King PA have in significant part been devoted to securities arbitrations. He has been involved in hundreds of arbitrations as counsel, mediator, and arbitrator. He is a nationally recognized authority on Securities Arbitration and is a co-author of Securities Arbitration: Practice and Forms: Juris Publishing 2016 (3rd Edition due for immediate release) and is a contributing editor to the Securities Litigation Commentator. In recent years at the suggestion of the SEC, FTC, CFTC and the Florida Office of Financial Regulation Mr. Wiand has been appointed by the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida and Florida state courts as a Receiver in regulatory enforcement actions. He has served as a Receiver in over 10 cases, some involving hundreds of millions of dollars. Litigation in his receiverships has resulted defining standards and precedents relating to receiverships of major significance A frequent speaker to financial services and regulatory groups, Mr.Wiand was the 2009 keynote speaker for the North American Securities Administrators Association’s national broker-dealer training conference. He is a member and Director of the National Association of Federal Equity Receivers, SIFMA and the ABA. He is a member of the bar of Florida, Georgia and the District of Columbia. He is admitted to the United States Supreme Court, numerous federal Courts of Appeal and District Courts in Florida, and Georgia and pro hac vice in District Courts throughout the country. Mr. Wiand received a B.A. in history from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee and his law degree from the University of Georgia. He lives on the beach, is married, has four children, and is an avid soccer fan.
